home to the bashi, barega, banyindu, banyamulenge and tribes mixed with Rwanda, the Sud Kivu has given shelter to the Hutus then the Tutsi during the genocide. It has had its share of bloodshed when kabila came through in 1998 and used the Kadogo, child soldiers as meat since they were the first to get killed. It is also home to gold, Coltan, Kasserite and other minerals that have led renegade soldiers to rape and kill communities just to get a hand on them while the international community and the MONUC looks the other way. Sud Kivu is where I grew up. Sud Kivu will be at peace one day…
