Presidential and parliamentary elections will be held on November 28, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Pastor Daniel Ngoy Mulunda, announced during a news conference on Saturday in Kinshasa.
“Registration of candidates for president and national Members of Parliament will begin on August 4, thus, before the ninety days required by article 73 of the Constitution.
A preliminary list of candidates will be published on September 7, thus, precisely ninety days before the election of the president and members of the National Assembly, as required by article 73 of the Constitution.
The election of the president and members of the National Assembly will take place on November 28.
Preliminary results of the elections will be published on December 6, the same day the term of the incumbent president ends.
In late December, the newly-elected president will be sworn in.
Provincial elections will take place on March 25, 2012.
Senators will be elected on July 4, 2012.
And, on July 21, 2012 the election of provincial governors and vice-governors will be held.”
Pastor Daniel Ngoy Mulunda warned political parties and platforms against “any kind of violence or intimidation during the polls. All acts of violence resulting from the actions of political actors will lead the INEC to purely and simply cancel the polls in the area. May God help us accomplish this timetable in peace and national unity.”
